In October 2022, we officially “launched” the McIver family website, by sending out an email to descendants who had previously shared their emails or had attended a family reunion previously.
Our goal is to bring you stories of relatives that you will find interesting, help you to learn about your McIver ancestry, and of course, keep you apprised of any planning for the next family reunion (expected in early August 2024 in Kinkora, Prince Edward Island, Canada).
Since launching the website, we have had the pleasure of hearing from several relatives, and we hope to hear from many more. Please keep sharing with other relatives, and especially contact us about any deceased descendants that you would like to see featured in our “Stories” section.
Why should you visit the McIver PEI Ancestry website?
− Learn about the original “McIver” family of PEI, Hugh McKeever and Mary Quinn.
− Read stories about interesting people in the McIver family, such as family members that took on a religious vocation, or lost family connections, such as the story of Zita McIver and her family, with whom we had lost connection due to a fire that took the life of Zita and her husband, Michael.
− Discover more about your ancestors by searching the electronic McIver Family Tree (check out this how-to page to learn how to use the Tree).
− Find resources for doing your own genealogical research.
How can you help?
To keep the electronic McIver Family Tree and the website up to date, please let us know about any births, deaths, and milestones such as marriages and graduations. Please share stories, documents, photos and histories for either deceased or living descendants (only information on deceased descendants will be viewable). Information such as full names, nicknames, dates of birth, death, marriage/divorce, burial location, occupation, and education help us to fill in the blanks in a person’s history.
We would also love to hear your ideas for stories or family members to feature on the website, or any other information that you may like to see there.
Feel free to reach out to us anytime by visiting the Contact page if you have questions, comments, or you would like to share any documents or information. Of course, if you come across any information that is inaccurate, please let us know right away. The form on the page will send us an email, and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can!
Want to connect with living descendants?
We have created a private Facebook group, Descendants of Hugh McKeever and Mary Quinn, where descendants of Hugh and Mary can connect with each other, share information on our deceased ancestors, and learn about our ancestry. For those of us not on Facebook, one of our site development ideas is to create a forum on this website, which will allow descendants to connect with each other without Facebook being the intermediary, for alas, for now the Facebook group will have to do.
What are we currently working on?
We are continuing to update information on living descendants (See “how can you help” section above) in an effort to have the 4th edition of the family tree book available in time for the family reunion in 2024.
We are continually updating information that is shared with us by relatives (photos, birth/death information, etc), and updating the electronic tree.
We have also been continually updating other genealogy research resources, such as Ancestry.ca, Find a Grave and Billion Graves, to assist family members’ research efforts.
We are also planning out some stories to be published on the website every few months, in addition to adding “In Memoriam” posts when we are advised of the passing of a descendant.
Thank you to everybody who has reached out to us to provide their stories, comments, well-wishes, etc.
Pat and Michelle McIver
