We are very fortunate to have had such dedicated family members who have contributed many hours of their time to bring together the first three editions of the McIver Family History book.
From the first edition, prepared by Sister Mary Charles McIver in 1964, the second edition organized by Ron McIver in 1985, and the most recent third edition organized by Betty McIver in 2009, we learn more about our history, and the contributed stories and pictures bring this past to life.
Much of the information from the first editions, particularly related to the first few generations, was gathered by word of mouth – stories passed between family members, letters received, visits from family that had moved away. As time goes on, we now have access to copies of official records that can supplement these stories, and help to correct any errors that may have found their way into our history.
After our “first family” settled on Prince Edward Island, some family members from subsequent generations left the Island to pursue opportunities and settled in the United States or in other provinces in Canada. In some cases, family connections were lost along the way. This may have been due to tragedy, or simply distance, particularly without the modern methods of communication now available to us today.
This section of the website is dedicated to sharing the stories of those family members where connections had been lost, and through our research, we have reconnected.
