This post is being posted on behalf of Betty McIver and Ron McIver, co-coordinators of the Hugh McKeever Headstone Restoration Project. The post below is written by Ron.
I mentioned in my initial post on this project that I would be sending out updates periodically, so this is update #2.
Regarding the installation date of the memorial bench, we have now been told that the installation date will be next week, either Wednesday Dec 4th, Thursday Dec 5th or Friday Dec 6th. Pictures of the installation will be sent in the next update.
Our goal is to collect $8,932.80. So far, we have collected $5,400 in donations! A big thank you to all the donors!
Due to the ongoing Canada Post mail strike, please notify either Betty or myself if you have mailed a donation via Canada Post. We will not be able to receive your donation before the end of the month and we will have to make other arrangements.
Two weeks ago, the monument company was able to arrange with Linus McIver to pickup the 2 original headstone pieces. The monument company will be inserting the 2 pieces into a granite cradle and attaching the cradle under the bench seating area. Linus has been the custodian of the 2 original headstone pieces. A big thank you to Linus!
This is an opportunity for our family community to celebrate and show our appreciation for the life and sacrifices of the first McKeever family that immigrated to Prince Edward Island.
Donations will gladly be taken until the end of November. Income tax receipts will be provided for all donations.
If you’re interested in making a donation to the Hugh McKeever Headstone Restoration Project, please send an e-transfer or cheque to Ron McIver or Betty McIver. Send an email to headstoneproject@mciverpeiancestry.ca and we’ll be in touch!
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me at headstoneproject@mciverpeiancestry.ca.
Thank you for your interest and consideration in this project.
