It’s been a while since we last updated everybody on what’s been going on at McIverPEIAncestry.ca.
Rest assured, Michelle and I (OK, mostly Michelle) have been toiling away doing genealogical research whenever the time permits. With kids’ activities, work commitments and volunteering in the various community organizations, the time to pursue leisure activities, needless to say, becomes hard to find.
A few things to comment on.
First, we’ve created an In Memoriam section of the website where we have begun announcing the passing of family members, when we are informed. We’ve also created a form you can fill out to pass along the relevant details to us. I’m working on a feature where people can sign up to be automatically emailed whenever there is a new In Memoriam notice posted on the website, but at the moment, I haven’t had time to really figure it out and get it working. But that’s in the pipeline.
Also, talk is starting to ramp up concerning the next McIver Family Reunion, traditionally held every five years in Kinkora, PE. In past reunions, the event takes place over the August long-weekend, so for the next reunion, history would dictate the next reunion will run from Friday, August 2, 2024 through to Sunday, August 4, 2024. We are working to firm up with the Kinkora Community Centre (the traditional place the reunion is held) that the venue is available and open for rent. Beyond that, a committee of interested McIver family members will be coming together soon to start the planning process, such as developing an itinerary of events and activities for people to do, putting together genealogical materials and other informative displays to educate reunion attendees about the McIver Family, its history and its members (this is especially true for those younger people whose family members long left the Island), and take care of all the other details that go into holding an event of this nature. If you are interested in being part of the reunion committee, let us know. In the meantime, stay tuned to this website for more information about the 2024 reunion.
