Happy New Year, everybody!
It’s been quite a while since I last posted an update on the development of this website.
Since the spring 2021, much of the time and effort spent on the McIver family and website has been on the genealogical side (as opposed to the technological web side). Michelle has spent many, many, MANY hours updating the family tree, inputting data into it, finding “lost” families and individuals, and doing research on the Kinkora and surrounding area. All of this has been meticulously added to the electronic family tree.
In addition to that, Michelle has written a few articles for the website. The first is a piece of the men and women of the McIver clan who undertook religious vocations.
The second piece is a more fascinating tale. It is about Zita May McIver who left the Island for the United States, and was thought to have perished in a fire, along with her husband and three of four children. Nobody knew what happened to the fourth child, and with the passage of time, her line of the McIver descendants became a lost connection. Until now. (Or so we believe.)
Beyond the genealogical stuff, the main website has seen little action until recently. In the works and soon to be released any day now is a startup of a quarterly (at most) newsletter that individuals can subscribe to. The purpose of this newsletter is to keep interested members of the family (or anybody else for that matter, I suppose) informed about the genealogical efforts that are ongoing to document Hugh and Mary’s descendants, of upcoming events (e.g. family reunion in 2024, hint, hint), news on the development of the 4th edition of the McIver History Book, and other items that may be of interest to family members. The newsletter will be available for sign-up within the next few months, through a subscription form available on the right sidebar of this site.
Anyway, as we start a new year, with another round of lockdowns (in Ontario, anyway), work will continue on this website and updating the family tree.
Michelle and I wish you the best in 2022.
